Overcoming the Fears of Network Marketing: My 20-Year Journey

Overcoming the Fears of Network Marketing: My 20-Year Journey

Hey there, fellow network marketers!

I’ve been in this game for over 20 years now, and let me tell you, it’s been a rollercoaster. I’ve worked with multiple companies, faced countless challenges, and yes, I’ve had my fair share of fears. If you’re new to this industry, you might be feeling some of those same fears right now. I get it. I was there once too, and sometimes I still find myself wrestling with those same worries.

The Fear of Running Out of Prospects

One of my biggest fears when I first started was running out of prospects. You know that sinking feeling when you’ve reached out to everyone you know, and you’re not sure who to talk to next? Yeah, I’ve been there. In those early days, I felt like my network was shrinking instead of growing. I worried that I’d hit a dead end and be stuck with no one left to recruit.

But here’s what I learned: You’ve got to keep going. Consistency is key. I started attending local events, joining online communities, and even just striking up conversations with strangers. I realized that potential leads are everywhere if you’re open to finding them. It’s about being proactive and putting yourself out there, even when it’s uncomfortable. And guess what? The more you do it, the easier it gets.

The Fear of Being Seen as Pushy

Another fear that haunted me was the idea of being seen as pushy or annoying. I didn’t want to be that person everyone avoids because they know I’m going to pitch them something. I worried about damaging relationships or coming across as insincere.

What helped me overcome this was shifting my mindset. I stopped thinking of it as “selling” and started thinking of it as “sharing.” When you genuinely believe in the value of what you’re offering, it doesn’t feel like pushing; it feels like helping. I began focusing on building relationships first and foremost, and letting the business side of things come naturally. Sometimes, people weren’t interested, and that’s okay. I learned to respect that and move on without taking it personally.

The Fear of Not Meeting Sales Targets

Ah, the dreaded sales targets. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve stared at the numbers and felt that familiar knot in my stomach. Not meeting targets can feel like a personal failure, especially when your livelihood depends on it. There were months when I felt like no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t hit the numbers.

But here’s the thing: I kept going. I realized that setbacks are part of the journey. I focused on what I could control—my actions, my attitude, and my consistency. Even when the results weren’t immediate, I kept showing up. Over time, those small, consistent efforts started to compound, and I began to see the results. It wasn’t easy, and there were times when I wanted to throw in the towel, but keeping the bigger picture in mind—financial freedom and the life I wanted to create—kept me motivated.

Why Having a Big Why Matters

Speaking of motivation, let’s talk about your “Big Why.” This is the reason you got into network marketing in the first place. Maybe it’s to provide a better life for your family, to achieve financial independence, or to escape the 9-to-5 grind. Whatever it is, your Big Why is what will keep you going when the going gets tough.

For me, my Big Why has always been about creating a life where I’m in control of my time and my income. I wanted the freedom to spend more time with my family, to travel, and to live life on my own terms. Whenever I hit a rough patch, I’d remind myself of why I started. That reminder was often enough to push me through the hard days.

Embracing Imperfection and Celebrating Small Wins

I’ll be honest with you—there were times when I messed up. I’ve made mistakes, missed opportunities, and had days where I felt like I wasn’t cut out for this. But you know what? That’s okay. Perfection isn’t the goal here—progress is. Celebrate the small wins, no matter how insignificant they might seem. Each conversation, each follow-up, each new connection is a step closer to where you want to be.

The Desire for Financial Freedom

I can’t wrap this up without touching on one of the biggest desires we all share: financial freedom. That’s the dream, right? To have the freedom to live life on our own terms, without worrying about money. It’s what drives us to keep going, even when the road is tough. But remember, financial freedom doesn’t happen overnight. It’s the result of consistent effort, perseverance, and a whole lot of learning along the way.

So, to all the new network marketers and direct sales entrepreneurs out there, know that you’re not alone in your fears. We’ve all been there, and we’re all on this journey together. Keep your Big Why in front of you, stay consistent, and remember that every step you take, no matter how small, is a step toward the life you’ve always wanted.

Here’s to your success and to the incredible journey ahead!

Cheers,

Robert

Backtesting Visa ($V) Rolling 4s Long Term Options Strateg

Long Term Visa ($V) (Rolling 4s) Play April 2017 – September 2020   Back again with another breakdown of some back testing I did on Visa ($V) with a LEAP option. LEAP options are 1-2 year plays using the Excel pricing sheet created by Mark Monroe to select the strike price.  This back test starts in April 2017.    I selected Visa because for this back test since I have been watching it recently. As we are going to a cashless society most transactions in the world are done with a debit/credit card. The biggest players in that space are Visa and Mastercard. So the companies are not going anywhere.   Check out my video commentary on Youtube:  Visa Rolling 4s Back Test Part 1- https://youtu.be/g8OyUKmttuU   Visa Rolling 4s Back Test Part 2 -  https://youtu.be/8gfJV5zsglE   Setup:  Bought Visa when the it bounced up off a key support/EMA (typically 20ema or 50ema) or even breakout price actions.  Looking to invest r...

Backtesting NVDA (Rolling 4s Long Term Options Strategy)

Long Term NVDA (Rolling 4s) Play September 2017 – September 2020   Back again with another breakdown of some back testing I did on playing NVDA with a LEAP option. LEAP options are 1-2 year plays using the Excel pricing sheet created by Mark Monroe to select the strike price.  This back test starts in September 2017.    This one was a bit tough for multiple reasons, but I have never followed NVDA so this is really organic going back to 2017. I tried to play this setup as if I was in real time regardless of what the price is now. And as you will see in the charts what the stock did would not have been beneficial for some plays to continue to hold.    Setup: Bought NVDA when the it bounced up off a key support/EMA (typically 20ema or 50ema) and a bounce up as the EFT was up trending.  Looking to invest roughly $10,000 or less each quarter. No rolling options…simply exiting and entering new trade.   Entries & Exits:   1. ...
